How to make bowls from paper

We need :
- Strips of newsprint- The wallpaper glue- Containers of different shapes- A large brush to spread the glue- Scissors- The paint and brushes to decorate your- A small stick

Step 1Paper mache objects
To prepare the glue, pour a scoop of powder (glue) to 10 parts water (if you do too much, you can keep the excess in an airtight container).

To mix the powder and water, creating a whirlwind with the stick and then gradually pour powder on the edge of the container (as pictured).Mix thoroughly and let stand covered for a moment.

Step 2 :
Now take old newspapers. Tear strips approximately 3 cm, using a ruler.

Step 3 :

Start by coating your container (dish, bowl, glass ...) with a paper towel soaked in oil to prevent the first layers of paper stick to the container at the time of release (after drying).

You will now paste paper strips.

Some people soak directly into the adhesive strips and remove excess glue from each band between two fingers. We tried but very often the paper tears. So we decided to soak glue our paper with a brush directly on the substrate (here, a bowl).

Step 4 :
Crisscross bands for your object to be stronger. As you straighten your paper and remove excess glue, minus your object will look "wrinkled".

Step 5 :
Multiply paper layers. Your object must have a thickness of 3 to 4 mm to be strong.
Step 6:
Let dry ... long. We only waited 48 hours before unmolding and we had surprises. Bands wettest remained stuck on one of our vessels that we had to make alterations not very aesthetic. A tip: Be patient!

Step 7:
Your object is turning out, you can now cut the edges.

Step 8:
The edges are rarely clear. In this case, you can pick up small strips of paper that will hide flaws and enhance the edges of your object.

AND let dry again!

Step 9:
When your subject is dry you can start painting. Spend a white layer thick enough to homogenize the color of your support. If you do not, we may see-through under the paint the texts of articles printed on newsprint.

For painting, we recommend using acrylic. This is a very opaque paint (although it obscures the text printed on newsprint). It dries quickly and can be spread with a little water (so drying is a little shorter). Finally, it is slightly shiny which avoids having been varnished.

Step 10:

Now you can paint with the color of your choice. Why do not we put a space before painting pink? This is the bottom of the dish, it may be imperfect, nobody will;)

Step 11:
That's what it looks like after drying ALMOST complete. For about 3 weeks, avoid placing your items on delicate surfaces like polished wood. Your object, even if it seems dry appearance will continue to remove any moisture in its many layers of paper.
